A Panama-flagged general cargo
ship ran aground on Bulgaria’s coast in the Black Sea early Monday morning.
AIS ship tracking data shows
the MV Vera Su was traveling at about 7 knots when it ran straight into the
rocky shore near Cape Kaliakra.
Bulgarian National Radio
reports no pollution or injuries as a result of the accident.
A photo released by Bulgarian
prosecutors said the circumstances of the grounding are under investigation,
including to determine whether a crime had been committed.
The 3,217 dwt cargo ship was
underway from Ukraine to Varna, Bulgaria with a cargo of fertilizer when the
accident occurred. The ship is 89.21 meters long by 12.5 meters beam and was
built 1989.
